Sources and methodology
info-lacs aggregates water temperatures from scientific providers. Each reading keeps its source, type and timestamp.
Real measurement and modelled temperature
A real measurement comes from a probe or station. A modelled temperature is computed by a hydrodynamic model (Alplakes / Eawag). A simulation is never shown as a real measurement.
Update frequency
Automatic imports are planned every hour. A value is current only if it is less than 6 hours old. After 24 hours it is shown as unavailable.
Origin
Current sources: Eawag / Datalakes and Alplakes in situ (measurements), Bains des Pâquis / AUBP, and Eawag / Alplakes (hydrodynamic simulations, e.g. Lake Geneva and Lake Zurich).
Lake level — FOEN / LINDAS
Lake Geneva water level (stations Geneva-Sécheron 2028 and St-Prex 2027) comes from current FOEN hydrological data via LINDAS. This is not a bathing temperature: FOEN river temperatures are not used instead of Alplakes / Datalakes / AUBP.
Reference depth
Unless stated otherwise, the displayed temperature is at a reference depth of 1 m.
Accuracy limits
Models have uncertainty. Values may differ from the temperature felt at the beach, depending on wind, sunshine and the exact location.
Availability
A lake is published only when a reliable source has been identified. Thun and Brienz stay inactive until Alplakes or FOEN provide a usable series.
